New Kensington, Pa. — The Christendom College men's soccer team came up short on the road Saturday, falling 2–1 to Penn State New Kensington.
The hosts struck twice in quick succession midway through the first half, scoring in the 25th and 29th minutes to build a 2–0 advantage. Christendom battled back after halftime, when senior Ryan Welch was played through on goal by Luke Vander Woude before being taken down in the box. Welch calmly converted the penalty in the 58th minute to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The Crusaders pushed for an equalizer and generated several late opportunities, but New Kensington held firm to hand Christendom the narrow defeat.
Up Next: With the result, Christendom moves to 3–4–1 on the season. The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they travel to face Penn State York.
