Front Royal, Va.- The Christendom College men's soccer team earned its first home victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Central Penn 3–1 behind a standout performance from goalkeeper Michael Vander Woude.
Senior Ryan Welch opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing a long assist from Michael Vander Woude to give the Crusaders the early lead. Central Penn answered in the 34th minute, but Christendom regained control just before halftime when Tim Sheedy headed home another feed from Michael Vander Woude in the 44th minute to make it 2–1.
The Crusaders added insurance in the 55th minute as Luke Vander Woude connected on a header off a cross from Niall Maguire to extend the margin to 3–1. On the defensive end, Michael Vander Woude anchored the backline with 14 saves to preserve the win, while also recording two assists from goal.
Up Next: With the victory, Christendom improves to 2–3–1 on the season. The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, September 23, when they host Penn State Mont Alto.
