Mont Alto, Pa. – The Christendom men's soccer team opened its 2025 season with a statement win, cruising past Penn State Mont Alto 6-0 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders struck early when Tim Sheedy converted a pass from Michael Vander Woude in the 4th minute to give Christendom the lead. Less than five minutes later, Luke Vander Woude doubled the advantage off an assist from Niall Maguire, and he added his second of the day in the 27th minute on an unassisted effort. Christendom carried a commanding 3-0 lead into the half.
The second half brought more of the same, as Vander Woude completed a remarkable four-goal performance with tallies in the 60th and 64th minutes, the latter assisted by Francis Gulick. Charlie Wyckoff closed out the scoring in the 81st minute after a setup from Diego Hansell to secure the 6-0 result.
Christendom controlled play from start to finish, outshooting Mont Alto 22-0 and putting 14 shots on frame. Alongside Vander Woude's four goals, Sheedy and Wyckoff each found the back of the net, while Maguire, Hansell, Gulick, and Michael Vander Woude added assists. In goal, Lucas Boada earned the shutout as the Crusaders' defense prevented Mont Alto from recording a single shot.
With the dominant victory, Christendom opens the season 1-0, showcasing both attacking firepower and defensive stability in its debut.
